Water Flossing For Professionals
Patients often tell us they waterpik or water floss, but wow do their gums say otherwise. We pull food and calculus from their gumline and think to ourselves "there's no way they actually do it.' What i've found is that water flossing is very technique sensitive. Make sure they are making their mouth into an O shape, leaning over the sink and allowing the water to funnel out. Most patients complain the water gets everywhere and then they give up on the product. Furthermore, I tell patients to add hydrogen peroxide and mouthwash to the waterpik, in order to then kill bacteria under the gums.
